We are Rossendale Community Directory

Rossendale Community Directory is a community charity-led organisation that promotes and supports local activity through this community information websites across Rossendale.  We include information about non-profit services of all sizes, the events and activities they offer and the news that they want to share.

In this policy when we refer to an ‘organisation’ we are referring to any community group, service or organisation that we hold information for.

Types of data we collect

Contact Details for Organisations

At the heart of our community information websites is a directory of community services.  We do collect contact details for organisations that can include personal information, but we will only use those details where we have received consent to do so.  Consent can be provided either via our online consent form or by email.

We publish this information on our community information websites where it is publicly and freely available for the purposes of promoting and supporting that group’s services and activities.

The contact details information we collect are:

  • Contact name
  • Contact telephone number
  • Contact email address
  • Postal Address & Postcode

Sometimes an organisation will use someone’s personal social media account for a group they are involved with.  When this happens we will contact you for consent to publish those details.

We contact organisations throughout the year to check the details that we hold for them.  In addition to this we will contact organisations annually to check their information is still up-to-date.

Where an organisation’s services are available to more than one area, we will seek consent to use one consistent version of their details for any of our area sites as appropriate, except where alternative details are provided.

Where an organisation provides details of their events or activities, we will seek consent to use the same contact details, except where alternative details are provided.

Google Analytics

When someone visits rossendalecommunitydirectory.co.uk we use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.

Our Mailing List

As part of the registration process for our weekly newsletter, we collect some personal information:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your post-code
  • Any information you provide about particular information you are interested in

We use that information for a couple of reasons:

  • To send you community news and information through our email newsletter
  • To contact you if we need to obtain or provide additional information
  • To check our records are right and to check every now and then that you’re happy and satisfied
  • To monitor which areas we are reaching and to identify what people would like information about

We don’t sell, rent or share this information with other organisations and businesses.

We do use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our newsletter.  We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter.  For added security our newsletter subscription process now uses a ‘double opt-in’ process which means that we will send you a confirmation email before adding you to our list.

Access to your personal information

Under GDPR, you have the right to access and amend any of your personal data that we hold about you.  This includes revoking any consent you have already given to use your data.

Changes to this Privacy Notice

This policy was last updated on 21st January 2021

We will review this policy at least annually, although we may make changes more frequently than that as necessary.

Updates History

21st January 2020: Updated to include How to complain information.

1st December 2020: Updated to reflect the transition from REAL to Rossendale Community Directory.

21st May 2018: We sent out our re-subscribe email and now new emails will only be sent to those who have provided consent.  We included ‘interests’ information that we also collect for our mailing list.

18th May 2018: We made our mailing list double opt-in, added information about third party websites

14th May 2018: We overhauled our old privacy policy and published a new one.
