Modes of Transport


Buses

The main bus operator is called Rossobus.  Information on fares and routes can be obtained by visiting their website www.rossobus.co.uk

Transdev also operate buses that runs through Rossendale.  Their bus route is called the Witch Way and starts from Nelson and Burnley and arrives in Manchester City Centre.  Information on fares and routes can be obtained by visiting their website at www.lancashirebus.co.uk

Taxis

Private Hire Vehicles and drivers are licensed by Rossendale Borough Council in the interest of public safety. The main difference between a Hackney Carriage and a Private Hire Vehicle is that a Private Hire Vehicle needs to be pre-booked with the operator. Such vehicles can not ply for hire in the street and are not insured for this purpose. Rail Travel

If you prefer to travel by train then the East Lancashire Railway offers a relaxed pace of travel through the scenic village of Irwell Vale on it’s way to Ramsbottom, Summerseat, Bury and Heywood.

A Modern Tram system operated by Metrolink links Bury to Manchester.

By Car

If you are travelling anywhere by Car, including Manchester you may wish to use an Online Route Planner.  Popular examples are Google Maps, The RAC, The AA and Green Flag.

Depending on the time of day and weather conditions etc. the usual journey time will take approximately 45 minutes from Rawtenstall to Manchester City Centre.  Information on where to park in Manchester can be found on the Manchester City Council website.

The National Cycle Network comprises many miles of traffic free routes and traffic calmed or minor roads.
