Feeling lonely or isolated can occur for only short amounts of time. However, the emotion can turn into a longer term problem and easily impact on your state of mind and physical wellbeing.

This can cause you to be very anxious or frightened about your situation. The result may be a feeling of long term isolation. The most difficult hurdle is acknowledging to yourself that you are experiencing loneliness.

Do you believe you’ve been feeling lonely or isolated?

Maybe ask yourself: ‘What have I done today, or who have I spoken to?’ You may not be aware of your loneliness or isolation, but identifying that you are experiencing it is the first step in helping yourself to overcome it, or speaking to someone that can help you.

‘Living Well, Living Better’ is a Rossendale Borough Council pilot project, tackling isolation and loneliness in Rossendale.

We offer free awareness raising sessions for local groups and organisations on how to spot the triggers and signs of isolation and loneliness, know how and where to refer people to.  We are also working with Spice, a community development organisation to develop a programme encouraging local people to look out for their friends and neighbours.

There is also a small grants pot available to support the work of local voluntary, community and faith organisations who work with people who are socially isolated and/or lonely.
