Dementia Friendly Rossendale (DFR)

Return to list of services

Dementia Friendly Rossendale (DFR) is a constituted group currently run by a board of three voluntary trustees all of whom work with people living with dementia and one is a dementia champion. As a constituted group we can apply for community grants as well as receive donations.

DFR work to raise awareness of dementia, the different types and how it changes perceptions and abilities in every day life. We visit groups, organisations and businesses in Rossendale to help them understand dementia better and what things in their space could be a barrier for visitors with dementia and advise on the changes they can make that would help.

We also run three annual events: In May, with East Lancs Railway, we arrange nostalgic steam train trips, which include cream tea and entertainment. During summer and winter we arrange ‘get togethers’ that will include food and entertainment.

During this coronavirus pandemic our activities have temporarily halted but we are proud to be supporters of the ‘Shine Project’ that provided hundreds of Christmas meals last year and continue to provide meals to those who are isolated as this pandemic continues.

We are hopeful and look forward to getting back to normal later this year.
