Civic Pride Rossendale (Gardening, Litter Picking, Rewilding and other projects) covers the Rawtenstall, Crawshawbooth, Waterfoot and Edenfield areas. We have helped create and now maintain many Community Gardens that help to brighten up the area for the local residents, but also creates an attractive setting to showcase the surrounding moorlands and hills for any one visiting here. You can either get involved with the regular Thursday morning, and occasional Sunday Gardening Work Group that meets from 10am – 12 noon, with a tea/coffee break in the middle. We meet at one of the various Community Gardens each week, and news of where we will be can be found in our Weekly Whereabouts email newsletter. If you can’t make one of these regular sessions then it is also possible to garden as and when it suits you. There are also other small groups who come together on a regular evening each week to undertake projects in their own area local to where they live.
As well as gardening we have an active team of ‘Lone Rangers’ or litter pickers that collect litter, usually on their own and in their own time in an area around where they live. We provide Hi Viz vests, litter pickers, hoops and green bags. Full bags are then left at a litter bin where Rossendale Borough Council will collect them. From time to time there are group litter picks as well.
Our aim is to develop our gardens so that they are as wildlife friendly as possible while still maintaining a high standard for them.
We are a friendly and welcoming group that will make any new volunteers feel very welcome.
