The Bacup Natural History Society & Museum was established in 1878, we have a collection of over 4,000 photographs and slides along with various historical documents on the Bacup and Stacksteads areas. Our museum, displays various domestic and military artefacts and we also hold one of the oldest flint & fossil collections in Lancashire.

Fondly known locally as the “ Nat” we are situated at 24 Yorkshire Street, Bacup, once the home of the Hare and Hounds, pub. From Easter to the end of October we open every Tuesday afternoon 1.30 pm to 4 pm, Thursday night from 7.30 pm, and every third Saturday in the month other times by arrangement.

Visitors are welcome to come and use our new research and reference area where they can get help with their family or local history research, access online records or view our original collection of old local newspapers such as the Bacup Times, The Bacup & Stacksteads Chronicle and several issues of the Bacup Echo.
